I Heart My Minion Onesie

Mom always got us pyjamas for Christmas. That is one of many traditions I have kept alive. This past Christmas, I bought myself a Minion onesie. It even has a hood!

Today is one of those days where I’m grateful that I got it. It’s dark, dreary and damp. Pretty sure I’ve caught the bug my Sweet Pea was fighting off. I’ve changed into my onesie and I’m curled up in a blanket. There is so much I should be doing. I had to take a day for myself though. If I don’t, my body will take control and MAKE me take the time off. So I give.

I decided over the weekend that I was going to at least start a sweater for a crochet-along hosted by A Crocheted Simplicity. Whether I finish it or not will remain to be seen. I’m off to a good start though. It’s a cool sweater.

Since I’m feeling like crap, I won’t take the energy to post all the links I could. I will post a link to my project page though. That has all the links. It also has a pic of my gauge swatch and the yarn I’ll be using.

Here is the start of my back panel:

Magic Loop + Sleeves = Tolerable Sleeves

I don’t know about you, but my least favorite part of knitting a sweater is sewing seams, very closely followed by knitting the sleeves. Why these two actions irritate me so much is beyond me.

I have heard other knitters complain about sleeves too. My good ex’s mom told me that she knits both sleeves at the same time. She said that way they turn out evenly and you don’t have to count as many rows between decreases. I thought she was brilliant! (I still do. I just adore this woman!) Ever since she told me about that, I haven’t knit a single sleeve since.

As I was filling Christmas orders, I found out how to knit two socks at a time using a method called the Magic Loop. I fell in love with this technique. It prevented Second Sock Syndrome, a condition often inflicted upon knitters. The first sock is fun. But by the time you get to the second one, it’s old news. You just want to move on to something else. The Magic Loop is the cure for this ailment! And again, it’s less counting since you’re doing them at the same time.

In addition to all of this, I love my circular needles. They’re the Harmony Interchangeable set by Knit Picks. So of course I’m looking for any excuse to use them. Aside from being pretty, I find they are kinder to my hands, wrists and shoulders. I used them for the little hoodie I’m working on. So when I came up with this idea, of course these were the needles I used.

When I got to the sleeves, of course I cringed at the thought. I didn’t want to sew a seam! As hard as I try, I’m never happy with how they turn out. A light when off. What if I used the Magic Loop to make the sleeves? Oh yes, sheer genius.

For those unfamiliar with the Magic Loop, I HIGHLY recommend this tutorial by Very Pink. While this video is regarding socks, the technique works for sleeves too. I’ve used a few of her tutorials and they are just wonderful. She caters to all skill levels. Her site is definitely worth checking out.

Yes, I am one happy knitter right now!

Two Down! (Almost)

As the title of this entry suggests… I just have to sew the seams and weave in the ends of sweater number two. I’m going to do that later on this week. ๐Ÿ™‚

So I now have number 3 on the needles. This SHOULD go quicker since it’s a smaller size.

My little man has been bugging the heck out of me to make his. I think I’m going to do his a little different. I’m thinking all green and yellow with checks on the sleeves rather than stripes. I may leave them solid… We’ll see when the time comes. I also found a graph for the actual emblem. So…

I picked up some pretty cool Christmas yarn the other day. I also acquired a pattern for a tea cozy. I’ve never worked with this sort of yarn, so I’m excited. It’ll be taking a back seat for awhile though.

I LOVE being busy!!!!

And we’re done with sweater 1

After some unexpected events over the past week, I was able to finish the sweater and deliver it this morning. It brings me such joy and excitement when I can use my skills to bring people joy and excitement and making gifts from the heart for them to give.

Tractor Sweater

I’ve got a good start on the sweater. Tonight I just couldn’t put the needles down! Hope the momentum remains… I’m going to have this done before I even realize it! Hehehe

Here we go!

I have been asked to make a tractor sweater. This will be refreshing after doing that black sweater! And I know this one will take me a month TOPS. I’m thinking more like a week, but I am no longer putting time limits on myself. Especially with all that I have on my plate right now!

This one is going to be an adventure though. The pattern I have just goes up to a size 4 and the sweater I’ve been asked to make is a size 8. This should be easy enough to do. I have TONS of resources. And when Uncle Garr gets envious of Goober’s sweater, I’ll be better equipped to make one in his size ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’m going to take a stab at using bamboo needles. I’ve never used them before, but I notice that a lot of the hardcore knitters do. I’m sure there is a reason for it. I’m sure I’m about to discover it. I’m kinda excited about it!

I also have to make a prototype of a table runner for Thursday. This is going to be for the Festival of Trees. I’m looking forward to this ๐Ÿ™‚

Well, time to git ‘r done!

Take that, black sweater!

I WIN!!!

That’s right. I made that sweater my ________. Now I can freely move on about my crafty life. And I can’t wait to give it to the lady!!!

So this evening I will be working on a couple of celebratory scarves. I have a tractor sweater on deck. Just have to get the $$$ for the yarn.

The next deadline I have is Thursday when I have to have a table runner prototype done for SR.

This week I’m going to try something different. I’m going to get up early and go for a walk. Then I’m going to go hang out in the Kycave. I haven’t spent much time in there since the choker “incident”. Soooo… It’s time.
